What God Really Wants Us to Know Series (Part 1)
"...Observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you"
If we really are believers, then we believe in a Creator God; almighty, omnipotent – the being who created the universe, the earth, you and me and 7 billion other souls on earth.. Such a being must have had a purpose in mind for each of its creations. Therefore, it follows that God created you, and me and every human being on earth for a divine and utterly profound purpose. Yet for most people on earth today, the reality of life seems to suggest that the purpose of life is only endless struggle and strife. Obviously, it is inconceivable that struggle and strife is what God envisioned for humankind. Surely, there must be something more for which we were created, something that so far we have somehow overlooked.
If there really is more to life than what we are currently experiencing, then God, our Heavenly Father, surely would have somehow communicated what that "more" actually is and how his children could transcend struggle and strife and experience that “more”. It seems self-evident that this “more” for which we were created, is the abundant life that Jesus promised. If this is so, the essence of that knowledge must have been revealed and therefore is available to us right now – at least some good hints, of it through God's word in the Holy Scriptures.
Consider some of Jesus’ final words just before he ascended, as recorded in the Gospel of Matthew: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you..” The obvious message: 'Look. Pay attention now. This is important. Teach others everything I have taught you.' Look carefully at Jesus actual words: "teaching them everything I have taught you". Jesus did not direct his disciples to preach stories about him and his miracles, or the story of Esther or Moses in the Old Testament. He directly commanded his disciples to specifically teach, “…all things whatsoever I have commanded you.”
